Ride the Wave

Freddie: I have two passions--traveling and telling a good story. What a thrill when I can blend the two! After my retirement from teaching, I discovered that I now have the time to do just that. One observation I made while teaching was that kids from other countries know more about us than our kids know about them. Being a self-proclaimed geography nut, this bothered me. So rarely a day went by that I didn't pull down that world map. After retirement, I missed not having those teachable moments until I realized I could share my travel experiences but within the confines of a fictional story. I wanted to inform but also entertain, and so my goal was to not have my books sound like that dreaded textbook. Thus, "The Journey to Mei" was created. This is a story of an American family who decides to adopt a child from China. One question I'm frequently asked is if there will be a sequel? This resulted in "Ride the Wave" with the settings shared between upstate New York and Cape Town, South Africa. "Ride the Wave" is scheduled to come to life early in 2011. What fun I had transforming my main character, Shelly, from a young 11-year-old child to a 15-year-old teen.
